The 13th Eco-Products 2011 Exhibition starts today in Tokyo.
This is the largest environmental exhibition in Japan with over 18,000 visitors expected during the 3 day period.

Zephyr Corporation will be exhibiting an Airdolphin and solar panel hybrid battery charging system that will provide security and independence to homes and commercials.
We will also be holding presentation sessions in English, Chinese, and Korean.

Zephyr Corporation offers sincere condolences to all those affected by the devastating earthquake in the Northern region of Japan.
We hope and pray for the people and wish for speedy recovery and relief.

We would also like to acknowledge and thank the many kind messages we have received in the past several days.

Our offices suffered only minor damages, and all the employees and their families are safe and well.

In light of the needs seen at the afflicted region, Zephyr has decided to donate and install off grid battery charging Airdolphin systems.

We are in discussion with the relevant authorities and evaluating the details for the implementation.

Details will become available on the website.

Operations at Zephyr is as usual, excluding a few employees who are not able to commute due to disrupted transportation services.

For the same reason, shipment may be delayed in some instances.

We apologize for any inconveniences this may cause and ask for your understanding and support.

AFRICAN OPERATORS LOOKING TO USE WIND POWER TO CUT DIESEL USE AT OFF-GRID SITES

November 10 2010 - Zephyr Corporation today announced that it has signed a partnership agreement with Lapp Group Southern Africa, a telecom systems integrator headquartered in the province of Gauteng South Africa.

Lapp Group Southern Africa will sell and install Zephyr Corporation's small wind turbines to operators throughout Southern Africa including Namibia, Lesotho, Zimbabwe and South Africa.

One of its wind turbines will be on display at booth D15.

Operators across Africa are now looking to use wind to replace or supplement both solar and diesel-powered generators.

With a diameter of just 1.8 metres and weighing only 17.5 kg thanks to ultralight blades made from carbon fibre, Zephyr Corporation's turbines are able to generate power at the lowest wind speed of any turbine on the market today - from just 2.5 m/s (5.6 mph). They can be used at both off-grid and on-grid sites; either for new base station deployments; or for retrofitting of existing base stations.

Existing customers include some of the largest operators in the world.

Mats Vilander, Zephyr Corporation's GM for EMEA and head of telecoms operations, says: "Diesel is no way to power a network. TURKCELL USING ZEPHYR CORPORATION'S WIND TURBINES TO POWER OFF-GRID BASE STATIONS

The eleven turbines are being used to power seven Ericsson GSM base station sites which are located in areas not covered by the electricity grid and supplement the solar panels and diesel generators already in use.

Mr. İlter Terzioglu, Turkcell's Chief Technical Operator (CTO) who is responsible for network operations, said:
"Turkcell is a pioneer in the the adoption of environmentally-friendly technology including wind turbines. Turkcell is already saving energy equal to the annual need of 315 households with the energy produced via alternative sources. With the other saving methods utilised in base stations we are expecting annual 13.2 milion Wh reduction in total consumption. This corresponds to the energy use of a family of four for 165 years".

Mats Vilander, Zephyr's general manager for EMEA, said: "These are hybrid sites with wind and solar being used to reduce the costs of running diesel gensets. It's very easy for our turbines to be incorporated into existing sites and other power supplies. We estimate an ROI of around two years with our equipment. The move comes in response to increased demand and interest in its wind turbines from operators around the world as a result of rising diesel prices, steady reductions in the power requirements of base stations and increased pressure for greener technology.

Last week Zephyr Corporation's wind turbines were shortlisted at the annual AfricaCom awards - the most prestigious of their kind - in the Telecom Innovation of the Year category (see www.africacomawards.com).

Zephyr Corporation's wind turbines can replace or supplement both solar power and diesel-powered generators at a fraction of the cost and environmental impact.

They can be used at both off-grid and on-grid sites; either for new base station deployments; or for retrofitting of existing base stations.
